"Blind" A Star Wars Story

 Blind

Master Pho handed Estella a stip of folded clothes and she held it in her hand, looking at it questionably. "What's the lesson, Master?" She asked, he chuckled as he walked away from her, then stopped. she glanced up at him and he held his hand out calling his lightsaber to him. She turned her head and watched as the lightsaber came flying towards her master's hand.
He thumbed the switch on his lightsaber and pointed it at her from across the courtyard. "Put that blindfold on, we're going to test how strong in the force you actually are." He said with a humored seriousness. She placed the cloth over her eyes and tied it off. "Now call your lightsaber." She turned her head in the direction her master had placed her lightsaber and raised her hand, opening it. Much like being able to feel her own heartbeat, she could feel the force flowing through her body.
She could hear the sweet hum of the kyber crystal, much like she had as a child in the icy caves of Ilum as a youngling. She wrapped her fingers around the hilt of her lightsaber once it came to her hand and she thumbed the switch.
She couldn't see anything, but she could hear everything. Above her she could hear the rows of speeder. Around her she could hear padawans and their master, Jedi Knights and clans of younglings heading to their lessons and quarters.
She raised her lightsaber and across from her she heard her master robe fall the ground. The buzzing thrum of his lightsaber was close as he now circled her. She turned her head, listening the each foot fall, as he tested her.
He raised his lightsaber and brought it down, she turned in his direction, raising her lightsaber she clashed with his, blocking his overhead attack. She pushed back and felt the weight pushing down on lightsaber become lighter. "Good, once more." She brought her lightsaber down, Holding it out in front of her. He circled her once more, this time she couldn't hear him.
She focused harder and turned her head, trying to listen for him. His Kyber crystal called to her and she put her hand out. She heard something hit the ground with a hard thud. She thumbed down switch on her lightsaber, hooked it to her belt and called her master's lightsaber to her hand. She hooked his lightsaber to her belt as well and pulled the blindfold down from her eyes. He sat there on the ground, rubbing his lower back.
"Are you alright Master?" He looked up at her, dumbstruck. "I didn't hurt you badly, Did I?" She asked worried that she had injured him and hurried towards him.
She helped him up off the ground.
"I'll be fine," He assured her. She unhooked his lightsaber from her belt and held it out to him. "How did you know I beside you?" He pulled it from her hand, then looked at her questionably and she pointed to his lightsaber as he put it on his belt.
"I could hear your Kyber crystal calling me." He looked at his lightsaber, than up at her. He turned from her, slowly walking towards his robed. She turned in his direction. "Are you sure I didn't hurt you when I pushed you back?" He paused and looked back at her. "Master?"
"It did hurt, but I wasn't expecting it." She averted her eyes away from his and crossed her arms. "It's not your fault, so don't worry. You did a good job my Padawan." she furrowed her brows, than her expression softened and she sighed.
She crossed the courtyard and looked up at her master. "Can I heal you at least?" He smiled at her and turned his back to her. She raised her hand, placing it in the center of his back. She closed her eyes and felt the force as it flowed through her from head to toe. She took a deep breathe and pulled her hand away, lowering it back down to her side.
"Thank you Estella, that feels much better." She smiled and he chuckled at her softly. He ruffled her hair and she swatted at his hand. He kneeled down, grabbing his robe and draped it over his arm. "We should let the boys know you're going to be late." She nodded and followed behind as he walked away from her.
"Do you think you could perhaps join us this afternoon, we're going to see Dex and eat there?" He looked back at her over his shoulder, thinking to himself.
"I'll come with you and Jax this time, but I'll have to take my data pad with me to catch up on the reports I haven't read yet." She nodded, understanding.
It had been a few years since she had been to the diner in Coco town and she looked forward to seeing Dex himself, but she also want some of his sic-six-layered cake and a glass of Jawa juice.

Writers Notes:

Without knowing it, in December 2023, I had written the 23rd chapter of a Star Wars story I had been working on as my first serious writing project. This is the first re-written draft of the first draft I had wrote.
I had wrote " Blind" for fun as a side story to help myself out of a hole I had dug myself into after having run into a bad case of writers block. I made it worse and I still haven't gotten around to finishing chapter 22. In the end, while I'm still struggling to get chapter 22 done, I have designated "Blind" as chapter 23.
The chapter number may change in the end after I have finished rewriting and editing the story.
